Link Layer Discovery Protocol-Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP-MED) is an extension to LLDP that enables endpoints that support LLDP-MED, usually IP phones and video-capable devices, to obtain information from an adjacent LLDP device, usually a switch, and use that information for autoconfiguration purposes.

For example, a switch can use LLDP-MED type-length-values (TLV) to advertise the QoS markings and VLAN that connected IP phones should use for voice and signaling traffic.
